While all eyes are on Dior’s newly-appointed Creative Director Maria Grazia Chuiri, with the world looking forward to her debut show in September, the brand has kept the momentum going with the launch of its Runway Bag. Celebrating Parisian savoir-faire, the new rectangular Dior carrier is accessorised by the brand’s iconic four letter charms along with the signature carnage motif on its quilted versions.
The Runway bag, first spotted at Dior’s ready-to-wear autumn winter ’16 show, earlier this year, complemented almost every piece presented on the ramp. Three versions of the Runway bag in ostrich skin, snake skin and quilted leather were created under the guidance of Serge Ruffieux and Lucie Meier (in-house head designers). Some adorned with beaded tassels and sequins, and others embellished with 3D floral motifs, they add volume to Dior’s archetypical rectangular silhouette. Featuring both short and wide straps, the bag is versatile enough to be sported as a sling or as an arm candy.
Designed in the oldest atelier of Dior, located few kilometers away from Florence, the Runway bag is iconic; its craftsmanship celebrates traditional French techniques of bag making. From manually constructed handles to assembling the bag around the wooden form, the Runway bag is an artistic creation tweaked with modern day elements.
